getting the words on the page
I finally got myself settled and writing last night, then decided this scene was boring. So I had a character do something unexpected. It was unexpected for me, too, so I had to figure it out as I went along. I usually feel, in these situations, like I'm sketching in the outlines of a scene. I'll go back to it later and make sure all of it's interesting and that it works like a real scene, i.e., doing several things at once.

I kinda spend much of my first drafts doing that. Keeps things interesting.

Me, I spent lunch rewriting a scene to make the POVs travel TOO the threat, instead of letting the troll come to them. Making things much more interesting, especially as the banter now has an undercurrent. Doing many things at once is good.
